I am researching my family name "Yeaman".My family are all now in Australia but I have a great interest in my Scottish heritage.I have found that my family were living in Lochee, Dundee prior to my ancestors move to Australia. By using this website's search facility, I have found the name Yeaman appears several times, including and references to James Yeaman who bought Affleck Castle. There appears to be quite a few Yeamans whose names appear in the list of those buried at the Howff Cemetery in Dundee. It also refers to Affleck Castle which seems to point to the fact that the Yeamans may have resided in the manor house at Affleck for a number of years. Can any reader provide any information as to the names of the families of Yeamans living at Affleck as well as any information on how long they actually lived there? My family history has been traced back to - David Yeaman, who married Ann Garrie in 1734 in the Parish of Strathmartine (north of Dundee). They had children James 1736, Isabel 1738, David 1743 and Robert 1747. Their son David married Margaret Doig in 1769 at Lochee and that couple had 9 children. My ancestor being George, being born in 1781.I have quite a lot of details following through to my family in Australia and can provide further details to any one that is interested. Thanks for your help,Judy Robothan(The Webmaster also has a connection with Yeaman in Lochee (or Liff & Benvie as was). |
